Cityhood, What You Think

In the last issue of the Eastvale Edition, we requested your opinions on cityhood and said we would publish an equal number of responses either in favor or not in favor of incorporation.  Here is what your neighbors think.

Keep Taxes in Eastvale
I am in favor of cityhood for two words:
Local control.
I understand the concerns regarding the budget.  However the budget climate will be here whether we incorporate or not.  The question becomes, who gets to make the decisions? Will it be the Riverside County Board of Supervisors (of whom, only one represents Eastvale), or will it be a city council comprised of our friends and neighbors?
What if the Board of Supervisors decides that because Eastvale is a safe and relatively new area, it doesn’t need as much safety and city services?  Do we want the county to redirect money from Eastvale to other parts of the county?  Or do we want a local city council deciding how best to use our tax dollars?

Nothing to Fear but Success
We can bury our talents under a rock and fear the future forever. Those around us will not be so idle however. Our quality of life will be at the mercy of the county.
Voting Yes on Measure A is a vote for our future. We will have our difficulties. Yet as evidenced by the demographic records of our very own schools, our community is filled with an enormous share of bright, intelligent people. We have done much as an unincorporated city. We can do even more as the city of Eastvale, and we will preserve all that we have already worked so hard for. Let’s put our fears aside. Let’s take control of our lands, our revenues, our lives. Vote Yes on Measure A.

No More Government
As many as 75% disapprove of the work of Congress.  As many as 73% disapprove of the work of the State Legislature.  Most people are unhappy with “associations” playing busy body with the residents.  The people know we have too many politicians and too many government employees. Taxes are too high.  So, why do we want to add another layer of government?  Why do we want to pay more taxes and more public “servants”?  The definition of insanity?  Doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

No to Debt and Financial Burden
My generation and our future children are already saddled with trillions of dollars of debt at the federal level and billions of dollars at the state level. Why would the people of Eastvale now want to saddle us with millions of dollars of debt at the local level? I’m all for Eastvale becoming a city, but only when we can afford it and when it offers real benefits. When you look into the numbers under Measure A, it is clearly not the best deal for Eastvale. Let’s renegotiate the terrible terms of Measure A so that it doesn’t add any more unnecessary financial burden to the families in this community by voting No on Measure A.
