Corona Norco Education Foundation
Fiscal uncertainty has plagued California public schools for over 30 years, reaching its nexus during the financial crisis of 2008-09. Dating back as far as 1978, the State funding model for public schools has created tremendous fiscal uncertainty for all school districts, with wide annual swings in financial resources. This led to a financial “feast or famine” in schools, with far more famines.
In the spring of 2008, a group of community members and district staff began conversations regarding the need for, and potential viability of, a non-profit foundation for the students served by the Corona-Norco Unified School District.
The Corona-Norco Schools Educational Foundation, as the non-profit came to be called, was established to meet some of the unfunded needs of the students in our community.
The Foundation has raised $250,000 through donations from the business community. During this upcoming registration for the 2010-11 school year, the Foundation will be sending home a newsletter about the Foundation along with an envelope asking for donations from the parents. What a great way to Make A Difference. Due to the expediency in which they have been able to raise funds, they will release Grant Applications to all 48 schools in the District in May so they can begin giving back and making a difference. Bill Newberry said, “They are 6 months ahead of schedule with their giving back campaign”, he continued by saying, “We hope to make a difference now, rather than later, and that is due in part to the commitment that the community has had to our cause”.
