People in the Neighborhood - Bill Newberry
by Kathie Bogart

Bill Newberry and his family moved to Eastvale 7 years ago from Huntington Beach. He is married to Jakki, with 3 children; Trent 22, twins Taylor and Tyler 18, and a grandson Silas, 1.

Bill & Jakki came across Eastvale by accident.  They were looking in Chino Hills and found a home developer they liked. However,  the developer had sold out of the floor plan they liked and referred them to another development in Eastvale.  They then encountered a one year waiting list and a lottery style drawing.  But they liked the area so much that they waited and they are glad they did.

Bill has been a District Manager for Aflac Insurance Company for the past 11 years, and was a teacher in Garden Grove prior to that. Bill originates from the South Bay area, including San Pedro, Wilmington and Carson.  Bill attended Cal State University Long Beach where he obtained his BS degree in Business Administration. Bill also attended the University of West Los Angeles School of Law and the University of San Diego Masters Program.  His wife Jakki is from the Houston, TX area, where she was a track contender for the 1984 Olympics, and has spent many years in property management.  Jakki is currently in school studying to become a physician’s assistant.  She was also the president of the Roosevelt High Cheer Boosters, and is a member of the Climate Boosters.
Bill and Jakki stated they moved to Eastvale because of the new neighborhoods, the ability to get a large home for much less than Orange County, being so centrally located to all the freeways and the quasi rural atmosphere. Bill & Jakki’s oldest son, Trent, graduated from Chino Hills High, where he played football and ran track.  Their son Tyler, who is a senior at Roosevelt High, recently received a full ride scholarship to the University of Arizona to play football, and their daughter Taylor, also a senior at Roosevelt, will be attending college and studying nursing. And their grandson, Silas, 1, is the love of their life, and as Bill say’s, “He can do no wrong”.

Bill & Jakki began early on volunteering in the community with the newly formed Climate Boosters at Eleanor Roosevelt High School about six months prior to the school being opened. The Climate Boosters started with six parents and has a general outreach to the school by providing campus beautification, staff appreciation and recognition, student support and scholarships.  The Climate Boosters conduct several activities throughout the year including staff BBQ’s, student awards and contests, and much more. They are also responsible for bringing the carnival to the Picnic in the Park, the snow, pancake breakfast and Santa to the Holiday Showcase, as well as the weekly bingo at Roosevelt High.

Bill continued on with his volunteer efforts by sitting on several committees with the School District, to include most recently the Superintendents Budget Committee.  Bill is also the first president of the newly formed Corona Norco Schools Educational Foundation (see article on page 14).

Bill has also decided to run for the Corona Norco School District Board of Education later this year, where he has already secured endorsements from County Supervisor John Tavaglione, the Corona Norco Teachers Association, the Corona Police Officers Association, the Corona Fire Association, the Norco Fire Association, Corona Mayor Karen Spiegel, and many others.  We wish him the best of luck in representing the entire school district, and a honor for Eastvale to hopefully have some representation on our school board.

Bill has received much recognition to include the JCSD Shining Star Award for his many contributions to Eastvale. Bill and Jakki both were recognized last year by the White House the State of California, the County of Riverside and many others for their outstanding volunteerism and leadership.
