Santa Ana River Trails New Path

In 1915 it was envisioned.  A trail that would take a hiker, biker or horseback rider from the Pacific Ocean to the San Bernardino Mountains, but it wasn’t until the early 1960s that the plan for the Santa Ana River Trail would be initiated.  And nearly 100 years later this visualization will become a reality.

The Santa Ana River Trail – Crest to Coast begins in Huntington Beach and passes through 17 different communities to end at the base of the mountains in the San Bernadino National Forrest.  This 100 mile trail received a boost back in 2006 when the counties of Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino, the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority and the nonprofit Wildlands Conservancy signed and adopted a memorandum of understanding that created a regional partnership and formal mechanism to fund the trail’s completion. Working together, the Policy Advisory Committee was able to earmark $45 million for the Santa Ana River Trail and Parkway out of voter approved Proposition 84. Currently, over 70 miles of completed, paved trails are available for hiking, horseback riding and biking.
The Eastvale trail along the Santa Ana River was considered an alternate route to the Santa Ana River Trail, until the end of last year where the SART committee decided that the Eastvale Riverwalk Trail is so nice that they wanted to make it a part of the chosen route.
There are still portions of the Eastvale trail that need to be completed from Riverwalk Park to the Hamner Bridge connector and a section from Archibald to the Prado Basin  By being a part of the SART, additional funding may be available if it’s needed to complete Eastvale’s part of the trail.

Congratulations go to the JCSD Park & Recreation Department because of their hard work in developing and maintaining our parks, the Eastvale Riverwalk Trail has received this exciting designation.
